Description
A Roman bronze handle in the form of a feline, c. 1st-2nd Century AD. The felines' head rendered from the top view, the eyes nicely detailed, the ears swept back, a central ridge running down the center of the head and wearing an inlaid silver collar. The handle itself it thick and sturdy with raised central ridges, the lower portion depicting the tail now lost. A nice piece and probably was one of at least two handles on a large urn or cauldron. L: 6 1/4 in (16.1 cm). Ex Henk Huffener collection, UK, acquired in the later 19th Century.
