Volume V from the Library of George Washington, with words written by Washington tipped into the book
“Family Secrets: By Mr. Pratt. In Five Volumes. VOL. V. Second Edition. Carefully Revised.” London: Printed for T.N. Longman, Paternoster Row, 1798. 4” x 6.75”, contemporary full calf, red morocco spine labels. Text generally clean. Second edition of Pratt’s popular novel, from the library of George Washington. Good condition with impeccable provenance. The words, “Sugar tree” written in George Washington's hand and clipped from a letter or document, have been tipped into the lower blank margin of title page. Included are color photocopies of the first page of a list titled, “Catalogue of Books received from Washington.” and a second page listing on the first line, “Pratt's Family Secrets 5 [Vols.],” believed to have been written by Benjamin Lincoln Lear.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
