Don Larsen 1968 Tacoma Cubs Contract
4pp partly printed and partly typed contract belonging to pitcher Don Larsen (1929-2020). Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from Steiner Sports signed by Don Larsen as "Don Larsen" in blue ball point pen. The contract carbon copy is signed by Tacoma Baseball Club executive Robert Henry Adams (1921-1997) as "Bobby Adams" on the third page. The marigold colored bi-fold paper is in near fine condition, with expected paper folds, each page measuring 8.5" x 11".
In the "National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues" contract dated April 13, 1968, Larsen pledged to play for the Pacific Coast League Tacoma Cubs during the 1968 season in return for a salary of $1,500. The 16-point contract outlined player's terms regarding rights and reproductions, exclusivity, and dispute protocol among other things. Larsen had transitioned to the Minor Leagues earlier that year, and would retire from baseball the summer of 1968. The 38-year-old pitcher appeared in six games with the Cubs, allowing three earned runs for a 3.86 earned run average. Over his fifteen-year-long MLB career, Larsen pitched for seven teams including the San Francisco Giants, the New York Yankees, and the Chicago White Sox. The World Series champion and MVP pitched a perfect game on October 8, 1956.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
