Greek work, the hardwood grips decorated with silver studs and set with silver bosses, the tangband and chain knuckleguard of silver with characteristic scrolled mount set with a coral, the steel guard with subtle profiling. The broad, handwrought Ottoman blade with moderate curvature and a series of interrupted fullers at each side of the spine, with a gold-inlaid dragon at the right forte containing the date 1125 a.h. (1712/13 c.e.) and a gold foliate panel at the spine. The wooden scabbard covered in leather with characteristic wire binding, the large silver mounts finely embossed in intricate imbricated motifs, the suspension bands with Ottoman baroque motifs. Second half of the 18th century or earlier. Minor delamination to spine of blade, scabbard tip dented.
