Description
Experimental Sea Green (?) vase decorated with a fish swimming through sea weed, covered with lustrous green, yellow and gray glazes, the work of Sallie Toohey in 1899. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 745 B, Ms. Toohey’s incised monogram and an incised G for her preference of Sea Green glaze. The glaze is luster, very similar to the Nacreous glaze from 1915 and experienced some issues during firing resulting in lots of open bubbles in the green and gray glazes. There is also fine crazing. Height is 7 3/4 inches. The G should mean Sea Green but this piece is beyond the norm in many respects, most of them good.
Condition
