Description
Rookwood Standard glaze tyg with the portrait of a well dressed woman of the period done by William P. McDonald in 1896. The woman wears a ruffled blue silk blouse and black hat with a broach attached. We would like to think this a portrait of Maria Longworth Nichols Storer but there are few photos of Maria to compare and Mr. McDonald has failed to identify the sitter. The new owner can claim it’s his or her grandmother or sister or whatever but we like the idea that it might be Maria. Marks include the company logo, which indicates the date, shape number 659 B and McDonald’s incised initials. Height 7 7/8 inches. Very faint crazing and minor scratches.
