Description
Impressive Rookwood Standard glaze floor vase with finely detailed wisteria decoration painted in 1893 by an artist who did not sign the piece. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 535 XX, and impressed W for White clay and a wheel ground X due to some glaze pooling near the rim. There are some open glaze bubbles inside the vase that don’t detract from the visual appeal. Very nicely done and although we cannot find an artist’s signature, this is undoubtedly the work of Daly, Shirayamadani or Valentien. Height 23 1/2 inches. The vase comes with a metal (bronze) foot that seems likely to be Chinese.
Condition
X’d due to glaze pooling at rim
