Description
Maker: KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur)
Location of Manufacture: Germany
Material: Porcelain (Seger porzellan)
Dimensions: 5 3/8"(h) ; 4 1/4" handle to opposite rim
Weight: 8 ounces
For your consideration is this large Berlin KPM porcelain portrait cup. The portrait is Kaiser Wilhelm II - Emperor of Germany and Prussia from 1888 to 1918. The oversized mug with large portrait is likely a commemorative cup manufactured by KPM as the markings indicate it was made between 1914-1919 - near or at the end of Kaiser Wilhelm II's reign. The handle on this mug is outspoken and is only matched by the lion's paw feet holding up the cup. The underside of the cup carries the KPM scepter mark used from 1870-1945 and the black cross mark was used from 1914-1919. Additionally, the underside carries several impressed marks. Just under the bust of the Kaiser is an "SP" mark which could refer to "Seger porzellan" - this mark was used up until 1918.
