Description
1694 Balthasar Bekker World Bewitched MAGIC Sorcery Existence of SATAN Occult
Balthasar Bekker was a 17th-century Dutch occultist who is best known for his philosophical works, especially those related to supernatural, demon-possession, and superstition. In his book ‘The World Bewitched’, Bekker attacks sorcerers and spell-casting magic, and he calls into question the reality of demon-possession. In fact, his beliefs were so contrary to those of the church, that he was noted as an atheist for questioning whether the devil even existed.
This copy is signed by Bathasar Bekker:
‘Bekker rejects the earlier edition and makes sure that buyers will recognize the authorized edition by his own signature at the end of the preface of each part, a practice he applied also to the French edition and to the parts published in 1693.” (Simoni)
