This lot consists of a gouache painting on paper, done in the Russian-Jewish Art Nouveau style of Leon Bakst (Russian, 1866-1924). This elegant image depicts two women in theatrical period costume. The jewel tones and attention to detail conveys a deep sense of elegance and drama. A sophisticated addition to any collection. This unframed piece measures approximately 13" x 9.5".
Leon Bakst (Russian, 1866-1924) was a painter and designer of Belarusian descent. Following an early interest in portraiture, and through his work for the Ballets Russes, Leon Bakst eventually became well known for his colorful, exotic designs for both set and costume.

Overall good condition. Minor surface damage can be noted in figure at right. The papers shows no tears, creases, or serious stains. Colors remain rich and vibrant. For additional reference, please see photos.
