The canvas is relined on the original stretcher. There is a small area at upper left that shows a beaded-up hardened brown liquid on the surface, with an underlying retouch, and a small retouch the the right. There is a 2 inch diagonal scratch to the right of the dome. In the sky are what could be small scattered retouches, especially at left, but under UV light, they do not have the typical appearance of retouching, so it could be the way it was painted. There are similar areas in the sky at right. None of these are visible under normal light. There is a James Bourlet label that reads "Royal Academy Exhibition 1953", and a partial artist's label with the hand-written signature and address of the artist
