Description
Passport issued to a Jewish man and his son in Austria. The "Reisepasse" was given to Adolf Pappenheim, born in Vienna in 1886 and still living in that city, for the use of his son, Karl Pappenheim, born 1925. The passport, issued in Vienna on Jan. 4, 1939 bears a large red "J" on the first page, where Pappenheim signs his name, beneath the photograph of his father! The Polizeipresident in Vienna approves this "second-hand" passport on page six. The passport is shown as valid until January 4, 1940. On July 15, the U.S. Consulate issues Pappenheim an immigrant ID number. On Oct. 31, 1939 Pappenheim, who has by law adopted the middle name "Israel", is issued a ten pound travel allowance from his state-locked bank account. There appears a Nov. 3,1939 Italian entry visa - three weeks before the passport expired. Pappenheim's fate thereafter is unknown. Cover detached, else very good.
