The History of the Council of Trent.
Containing Eight Books, In which besides the ordinary acts of the Council are declared many notable occurrences, which happened in Christendom, during the space of forty years and more.
And particularly The practices of the Court of Rome, to hinder the Reformation of their errors, and to maintain their greatness.
Written in Italian by Pietro Soave Polano, and faithfully translated into English by Sr Nathanael Brent, Knight.
Whereunto is added The life of the learned author and the History of the Inquisition.
London printed by J. Macock, for Samuel Mearne, John Martyn, and Henry Herringman, 1676.

The volume present being one of three printings in 1676.

A license to print on 1v Whitehall the 5th of August. 1675.

Let the History of the Council of Trent, written in Italian by Pietro Soave Polano, and translated by Sir Nathanael Brent, Knight, be reprinted. J. Williamson.

The life of the most learned Father Paul and History of the Inquisition have separate dated title page pagination and register are continuous.

In this edition a comma does not follow the word occurrences line 10 on the title page the second T in Trent line 5 is directly above the ok in books line 6 on the title page.

Condition
Folio, disbound in remains of period calf, lower board and endpapers lacking, upper board detached, spine with 6 raised bands, all page edges speckled red. Period plain endpapers with bookplate of Gloucester public library, their oval blue ink stamp to verso of title page. The contents are complete, meeting collation 16, cvi, 2, 728, 727-889, 49 pp, the title page printed in red & black within double ruled border, decorative initial and ornaments. The book measures 21.5cm by 33cm.
