Item Details

Description

Richard Artschwager (NY 1923-2013). Fine bench made desk in walnut. An iconic piece of mid century furniture design. Measures: 60" W x 24" D x 29" H Unmarked. Artschwager started his career designing and making furniture. He had a number of commissions early in his career and had success exhibiting and selling his work. A fire at his workshop in 1958 caused him to re-examine his work and led him to work in other artistic mediums, e.g. painting and sculpure design. Circa late 1950's/early 1960's. Provenance: A private NY collection. See William Jenack sales 1.8.2017 lot 83, and 9.20.2015 lot 60, for examples from the same collection.

Condition

Age related patina, not refinished. Good to very good overall vintage condition, with expected wear. No discernable structural defects.
