Item Details
Description
  • Title: Dracula-Stoker-Probable 1st Prtg of the 2nd ed-1920's
  • Provenance/Additional Info: About this Item: Grosset & Dunlap, New York, 1897. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. Early edition. Presumed to be a 1927 or 1928 First Printing of the Second edition that was previous to the 1931 photoplay edition. 1897 date is on copyright page only, no other dates. Covers are bright orange w/black border/author/title on front cover. 2 pages of ads at rear including page titled "Detective Stories by J. S. Fletcher" with the last title listed being The Valley of the Headstrong Men. Previous owner's decorative signature on fep and old book shaped book dept sticker on pep. Rear board foredge has a dent midway that barely tore the cloth about 1/2" with a tiny archival repair. There is a very tiny fade area to the front board/barely to the spine head and also to the bottom 2 3/4" at the tail due to the DJ lacking at that spine area from sunning. Front DJ panel shows large head with eyes looking over sleeping woman in bed. Rear panel advertises the Dracula play." Did you see the play- the vampire thriller that kept the audiences of two countries frozen to their seats in horror? " And the inner DJ has ads for over 500 titles though due to lacking portions of DJ and an old 2" x 5" brown paper tape repair probably 100 or so titles are not visible. Nearly 2" x 3" of the DJ lacking at the front bottom left corner panel and 2 3/4" at the DJ tail, both affecting some lettering. A few other small DJ edge wear/archival repairs and front panel wrinkles. Looks better in person than it sounds. Very scarce edition of this classic title. 12mo 5 1/4" x 7 5/8" tall; 354 pages.
