Condition: Very Good
Condition details: This piece is in very good condition. With the unaided eye there are no issues. Closer inspection under ultraviolet light reveals normal fluorescence of artist's pigments and no signs of restoration. The work is mounted under glass and has not been inspected out of the frame. The piece is framed in a rustic brown frame with a cream linen liner, gold fillet and a cream matting. The matting is signed; ‘Ute Signal on the Rio Chama’ From the Sketch Book of Byron B. Wolfe. The frame is in very good condition with normal wear. An artist bio is provided on the back of the piece. Verso on the back of the piece: TIME- 1700s INTO 1800s PLACE – NORHTWESTERN NEW MEXICO – CHAMA RIVER A TRIBUTARY OF THE RIO GRANDE. NOTE – The introduction of the horse consolidated the Utes. They became war like and aggressive, seeking their horses from their raids on the Comanches, Kiowas, Cheyennes and Arapahoes.
