Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona and New Mexico, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Pueblo II, ca. 980 to 1150 CE. A fabulous example of a hand-built pottery pitcher with a lightly rounded but stable base, a spherical lower body that tapers to form the tall walls, and a tall rectangular handle that arches from rim to midsection. The white-slipped vessel is adorned with zigzagging serpentine forms with bodies filled with thin diagonal lines, and a dense ladder motif embellishes the exterior surfaces of the handle. This style of pitcher is associated with the Pueblo II period, a time when people in the area traded pottery for food with wealthy settlements like Chaco Canyon. Size: 5.125" W x 6.375" H (13 cm x 16.2 cm)
