African American Artwork “We’s Free” Ca. 1865
This beautiful piece of needlework measures 14” x 17” and was likely done by freed slaves to commemorate being released from bondage. Pictures an African American couple dressed in red, holding hands and dancing. Red chain link border with red and blue geometric design at lower margin, fringe at top.
Provenance: Eldred’s Auction House, August 1, 2014, sold for $510.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
