Description
Kerouac Jack
Jack Kerouac's Personally Owned Italian Translation of The Dharma Bums, Retrieved from his Last Home
An Italian translation of one of Jack Kerouac's classic texts, The Dharma Bums, once in the personal library of the famous Beatnik himself. The volume is stamped on one of the first front leaf pages with the Jack Kerouac Estate stamp and the raised blind seal from Executor of the Estate, John Sampas.
Jack Kerouac (1922-1969), the famous American writer who brought us On The Road (1957), enjoys immense popularity in Italy. Kerouac's On the Road was one of the first English language books to be translated into Italian in the mid-twentieth-century, second only to Ernest Hemingway's Italian-based World War I novel A Farewell to Arms. To Italians, Kerouac symbolizes the best characteristics of the American spirit: curiosity, honesty, independence, and persistence. Kerouac's rebelliousness appeals to the national Italian character, not a little of which is based on iconoclasm.
The lot is comprised of: Jack Kerouac, I Vagabondi del Dharma (Milan: Arnoldo Mondadori Editore, 1961). Translated from English into Italian by Magda de Cristofaro. The original book jacket and inner pages show light to moderate water damage. Else very good. This Italian language edition runs 290pp. 12mo.
Originally published as Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums (New York: Viking Press, 1958).
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
