c. 1790 Federal Period, President George Washington Related Hand-Colored Etching of the Triumphal Arch, Boston, by Samuel Hill, Very Fine.
This rare hand colored etching by Samuel Hill from the 1790 January edition of "THE MASSACHUSETTS MAGAZINE.", measuring about 8.25" x 5.25". Printed caption below image reads, "View of the triumphal Arch and Colonnade erected in Boston, in honor of the President of the United States Oc(t). 24 1789." Included with the etching is the first leaf from The Massachusetts Magazine For January, 1790 which describes the Triumphal Arch and Colonnade erected at Boston. Light foxing with strong color to the central drapery with a Federal Heraldic American Eagle at top. The first example for this print we have offered.
