American sampler by Elizabeth Wilson, 1846, worked in silk thread on linen, having a cross stitched band of numbers, an alphabet, and a verse reading "Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand as the first efforts of Elizabeth's hands and while her fingers oer the canvas moved engage her tender heart to seek thy love. O may the righteous when she strays, smite and reprove her wandering ways," surrounded by birds, deer, cats, trees, and baskets of flowers, with a meandering foliate border, 16.5"h x 12.75"w; overall with frame, 21.5"h x 18.5"w.
