Oil on canvas painting with some impasto of the Old South church, looking west, Unsigned Attributed to Walter Gilman Page (1862-1934) Overall 14.5” x 18.5”, window 11.5” x 15.5” Overall good condition.Walter Gilman Page studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and was a pupil of Gustave Boulanger (1824-1888) and Jules Lefebvre (1836-1911) at the Academy Julien in Paris. He was a founder of the Boston Public School Art League and maintained his studio at the Fenway Studios. He became interested in fostering the spirit of old New England through his paintings and his work with organizations such as the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, the Sons of the Revolution, and the Massachusetts Society. He moved full time to Nantucket sometime in the 1920's where he spent some of his time painting at the Forge s , one of the artist colony waterfront studio's on straight wharf on Nantucket . He passed away at the woodbox on Fair St in 1934
