Description
Winter in the Cotswalds. Oil on canvas 20 x 16 in., 23 x 19 in. (framed). John Loeper is a native Pennsylvanian and was a forty year resident of New Hope. An active member of the New Hope art scene, he exhibited in local galleries with Edward Redfield; John Folinsbee ;Harry Leith-Ross.and Ranulph Bye . Beyond New Hope, he exhibited in galleries in Washington, DC; New York City; Boston; Connecticut and Martha's Vineyard. He participated in the Art for Sale program at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In 1985 he was invited to mount a one-man show of his work at Bloomingdale's in Manhattan.His painting of the Charlotte Inn in Edgartown was the cover art for an edition of Back Roads And Country Inns. He also did the illustrations for his childrens' book The House On Spruce Street (Atheneum NY). One critic wrote of him "His use of color is fresh and his paintings are a charming fusion of naivete and impressionism."Information provided by the artist.
