Description:
4 volumes. With several hundred black and white photographs. Each approx. 30.8x25 cm (12x9¾")
Photo albums depicting scenes of Japanese American life, immediately prior to and during World War II. Three of the albums contain images from Manzanar, an American concentration camp in California, where Japanese Americans were interned during the war. One of the albums is identified as belonging to Toshiko Kubota. Also contains a variety of ephemera, including calling cards, graduation invitations, holiday cards, and photo negatives. Photography was prohibited in the camps, with few exceptions, making these intimate views of camp life highly uncommon.
Condition
Various states of wear; some tears and chips to photos, some photos missing, some toning and offsetting from plant matter and glue; overall very good.
