Eliezer Elhanan Shalit was born in Ponovezh, Kovno Governorate, Lithuania. In 1882 Eliezer Elhanan Shalit immigrated to the Land of Israel and became one of the founders of the colony Rishon Letzion. There, in addition to his extensive knowledge in the Torah and new Hebrew literature, he became an expert in agriculture. His vineyards became a model for work procedures: fertilization, tilling, trimming, and grafting. Was the first pioneer in growing olive trees. A selection of his olive varieties was showcased, later on, in an exhibition in Paris where he won first prize. Grew the "Peanut Tree" and Pistacia Vera - a tree indigenous to Northern Syria.

In 1902 he served as deputy chairman of the colony. In 1906 he was a commitee member of the associations "Achuza" and "Rishonia".

Organized sing and dance nights around the bonfire. It has been said about him that he was "a living newspaper", full of humor, teaching Gmara sheets. Prepaired the version of the scroll sent to Moshe Montefiori from Rishon LeZion for his 100th birthday. Having suffered a severe illness, he went to his daughter and son in law living in Berlin. He died there after the beginning of WW1 and was brought to burial there. Many years later, in 1971, his body was brought to Israel and there he found his final resting place, at the top of the hill of the old Rishon LeZion cemetary.

אליעזר אלחנן שליט נולד בפונוביץ פלך קובנה, ליטא.בשנת התרמ"ב, 1882, עלה אליעזר אלחנן שליט לארץ והיה לאחד ממייסדי המושבה ראשון לציון. כאן, בנוסף לידיעותיו הרבות בתורה ובספרות העברית החדשה, היה למומחה בחקלאות. כרמיו היו מופת להלכות העבודה: זיבול, עידור, זמירה והרכבה. היה החלוץ הראשון בגידול עצי זית. מבחר מזני הזית שלו הוצג, מאוחר יותר, בתערוכה בפריז והוא זכה בפרס הראשון. גידל את עץ ה"בטנים" (פרי עץ) ו"פיסטציה ורה" - עץ שהיה נפוץ בסוריה הצפונית.


בשנת התרס"ב, 1902, כיהן כסגן יו"ר ועד המושבה. בשנת התרס"ו, 1906,היה חבר בוועד אגודות "אחוזה" ו"ראשוניה".


ארגן ערבי שירה וריקודים סביב למדורה. נאמר עליו שהיה "עיתון חי" מלא חוש הומור, מלמד דף גמרא. הכין את הנוסח למגילה שנשלחה למשה מונטיפיורי מראשון לציון ליום הולדתו המאה.


משחלה במחלה קשה, נסע אל בתו וחתנו הרופא שחיו בברלין.


נפטר שם אחרי פרוץ מלחמת העולם הראשונה והובא לקבורה שם.


שנים רבות מאוחר יותר, בשנת 1971, הועברה גופתו ארצה והוא מצא את מנוחתו האחרונה


בראש הגבעה בבית הקברות הישן בראשון לציון.
