Description
A VERY SCARCE LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABRE BY T. GILL, circa 1780, 80.5cm curved blade with clipped back tip, stamped with a crown over GR to either side and T. GILL on the back edge, steel hilt with D-shaped knuckle bow and slotted guard, ribbed wooden grip, faceted bun-shaped pommel and lower ferrule. This appears to be a very early example of Thomas Gill's work as a sword maker. By repute this sword was purchased from a Canadian Collector who acquired it from an American family who had had it since the American War of Independence.
