Original letter hand-written by R. Crumb in pencil on 8.5" x 11" paper. Undated. Signed "'Bobby' Crumb." Very fine condition, light corner bump, light stain to margin. Crumb's 21st c. epistolary technique is as follows: his brother-in-law Alex prints out emails addressed to Crumb; the un-tech-savvy Crumb writes his response on paper; Alex transcribes the handwritten letter into email, sends the email to the correspondent and saves the letter. A collector has latterly made an exclusive deal to obtain Crumb's handwritten email drafts; thus, these "email letters" are now essentially off the market.

"It was all my fault, I led you on. I was crazy and irresponsible when I was young. It got me into a lot of trouble and caused no end of grief to several women."

Crumb writes a revealing letter to a woman named Frankie, with whom he was briefly involved in the early 1970s. He relates a fascinating anecdote about how his wife, Aline Kominsky-Crumb, was so enraged by Crumb's involvement with Frankie that she "broke her foot while pacing back and forth in front of my little cabin, walking on rough ground in her high-heeled shoes!" This incident led directly to the first Crumb-Kominsky collaboration: "...while Aline was convalescing... we started working on our first collaborative comic book, and worked on it all that winter, 'Dirty Laundry Comics' number one." The verso is a photocopied Crumb letter in French.
