SET of 9, c 1870 BRET HARTE HEATHEN CHINEE, CHINESE IN U.S. LITHOGRAPH s by HULL
Circa 1870 Set of 9 Lithograph Prints from Bret Harte's popular poem "HEATHEN CHINEE" or "Plain Language from Truthful James", illustrations by Joseph Hull. Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1870 by the Western News Co. in the Office of the Librarian of Congress. Plates are numbered 1-9. missing the title plate. The poem was originally written to satirize anti-Chinese sentiments in California however, to the author's dismay, it served to reinforce those racist feelings. Approximate size is 5-3/8" x 7-1/4". Condition: light soiling, staining, and foxing spots, occasional edge wear.
