Description
HENRIETTE OF BELGIUM: (1870-1948) Duchess of Vendome. A.L.S., Henriette, three pages, 8vo, Belmont House, Park Side, Wimbledon, 27th October 1923, to a Marquess, on Princess Henriette's personal monogrammed stationery, in French. The Princess states that she has returned to England following a lovely stay with her brother in Belgium and continues to inform her correspondent 'The letter for Colonel Faivre's wife is on its way to Nice. The Duke of Vendome has been very unwell and still is, we will therefore spend the winter with him in Cannes, in the hope that the beautiful sunshine will help him recover', further remarking 'Those health concerns absorb me and keep me away from Paris, and from the charity affairs so dear to my heart. I must fully commit to my household and cheer up and care for the man who has always been the most perfect husband to me. My son is working with us this year, having him by my side again is a sweet consolation'. VG £80-100 Prince Emmanuel of Orleans (1872-1931) Duke of Vendome, husband of Princess Henriette of Belgium. Somewhat tragically (not only in terms of the content of the present letter) the Prince was to die unexpectedly from heart failure after having caught a cold in Cannes. Prince Charles Philippe (1905-1970) Duke of Nemours, the only son of Prince Emmanuel and Princess Henriette.
