Description
Katana in Shirasaya with koshirae. (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)
Signature: Yasutsugu Nanbantetsu (Edo 3rd generation)
OITE Bushu Edo Saku Kore
(We divide 4 sections for each sword shaft Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Jyojyo sakura king.
The blade is polished.
Habaki: single silver Habaki.
Blade length: 62 cm or 4.24 inches.
Sori: 0.8 cm or 0.315 inches.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi: 3.06 cm or 1.2 inches.
Width at the Kissaki: 2.18cm or 0.86 inches.
Kasane: 0.7cm or 0.276 inches.
Era: Edo period Kanbun era.
Jigane: Koitame hada well grained with jinie attach.
Hamon: Konie deki suguha with small ashi and nezumi ashi scatter.
Boshi's round shape.
Special feature: ccording to the inscription on the rod,
Yasutsugu forged this sword using Namban-Tetsu at Edo.
Namban-tetsu was a very precious imported iron in ancient Japan.
Yasutsugu was a distinguished swordsmith family.
The First Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu
Permitted Yasutsugu using the First hollyhock crest
and the character Yasu.
The NBTHK Judged this sword by the Third who
was a grandson of the First Yasutsugu, Descended in a straight line.
After the Third Generation, the clan devided into two
lines; One prospered at Edo and the other prospered
Echizen province. Both clans continued for generations until the late Edo period.
koshirae:
Saya: Black Roriro Saya.
Tsuba: Round shape iron tsuba, Ebisu god and fish are engtraved with gold and copper color.
Menuki: Cows are engraved with gold color.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo, wave and wheel are painted with gold and silver color.
This sword is 3rd generation Edo 3 dai Yasutsugu departed
Echizen from Yasutsugu family.Edo dai 3 is high
reputation and continued to 11th generation.
The reason is tat in Edo city, there are many sword makers
other district-including sword makers worked at Edo and tried to
do the best for Their energy and tried to make high quality swords.
So Edo 3rd generation Yasutsugu achieved high reputation and
continued to 11th generation.
