James Stark (British, 1794-1859) Oil on Canvas. Painting of cottage in a gle with a family, dogs and a pond.. Back of canvas reads prepared by Charles Roberson, 51 Long Acre, London. In carved gilt wood frame under glass.Purchased at Jenkinstown Antiques, New Paltz, NY Antique, minor wear to frame, older small restoration patch to back Stretcher 20"x24". Frame 29"x33"x3 3/4". Weight 23 pds. James Stark (1794-1859) was an English landscape painter. A leading member of the Norwich School of painters, he was elected vice-president of the Norwich Society of Artists in 1828 and became their president in 1829. He had wealthy patrons and was consistently praised by the Norfolk press for his successful London career. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate
