Description

Taino (c. 1000-1500 CE) Macoris Head. The severe sloping of the forehead suggests modification by cradle boarding typical of Macrois heads. Also the round form of the head is another design element consistently seen on this head type. They are only found in the Dominican Republic. Made from magnetite and has a positive magnetic field. Provenance: Larry Roberts, author of Taino Sculpture: Art of the Gods. Size: 5.25'' x 2.5'' (13 x 6 cm).
