This lot consists of an ink illustration on paper, done in the richly modern style of Diego Rivera (Mexican,1886 -1957). Hand inscription at bottom reads, "Diego Rivera 36". Image depicts a seated man wearing sandals and a wide-brimmed hat, enveloped in his own thoughts. This masterful drawing is executed in the Social Realist style for which Diego Rivera is so well beloved. This elegant study would highlight any collection, big or small. Unframed piece measures approximately 10.5" x 8.75".

Diego Rivera (Mexican, 1886 -1957) was a leading artist in his time. Rivera's large frescoes helped establish the Mexican mural movement, and were a vibrant celebration of traditional Mexican culture. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals in places from Mexico City to Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City. In 1931, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Rivera shared a tumultuous marriage with the painter Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954). Their union traversed illness, political intrigue, personal struggle, and a mutual artistic respect. Rivera passed away in 1957 at the age of 71.
