This lot consists of a framed oil painting on board, done in the Impressionist style of Max Liebermann (German, 1847-1935). This bright and playful image depicts a group of figures splashing in the foamy surf. A hand-painted inscription at lower right corner reads, "M. Liebermann". This framed piece measures approximately 16" x 22", with an approximate image sight of 9" x 14.5".

Max Liebermann (German, 1847-1935) was an Impressionist painter, printmaker, and collector of fine art. Liebermann was renowned in Berlin as a portraitist, with work that reflected many of the artistic leanings of greats such as Edouard Manet (French, 1832-1883). In fact, Liebermann executed over 200 commissioned portraits during his career, including one for Albert Einstein (German-American, 1879-1955). Liebermann was a masterful artist, whose eye transcended the everyday and always seemed to draw directly upon the divine.
