Description
A great example of a Very Early Greek(third century) ceramic guttus (also guttos) used to pour oil into oil-burning lamps. The vessel rests upon a concave ringed foot with a discoid body covered in dozens of fine vertical ribs, a petite loop handle, and an upturned pouring spout with an everted ringed lip.The piece is molded facing head of Alexander The Great as the young herciluas wearing the heavily maned lion on his head- Has chip to bottom foot rim-some loss around relief face----ALL PACKING & SHIPPING IS OUTSOURCED.Purchases can be picked up at our Ho-ho-kus gallery by appointment only- Please call 201-921-6600.
