Description
A VIETNAMESE/ANNAMESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN DOUBLE GOURD EWER, SHIPWRECK ARTIFACT, 15TH/16TH CENTURY, the stemmed dome form lid on a bud shape top with sides centering a continuous band of stylized waves, over a short neck with stylized calligraphy decoration and flaring to a compressed ovoid body, enclosing an applied roundel with a tightly detailed dragon and pearl in shallow relief within a rounded lappet paneled border, beneath a Buddhistic lion amidst stylized clouds ending above a short double lined flaring foot reversing to an unglazed brown swirl underside, flanked by a curved spout with an "S" form bracket opposite a split tendril form handle. Height: 11 3/4" Width: 6" Depth: 5"
Condition
Good condition for shipwreck porcelains of this age and use including but not limited to expected light marine encrustations, buildup and dulled surface glaze as well as crazing throughout.
