Marevna Marie Vorobieff (1892-1984) Russian
a Cubist portrait of a lamenting woman with a gaunt face, with geometrical facets and angles in a painted frame, pencil and watercolour on paper, with hand written annotation from the artist to the inside of the folded work reading 'Chere Madame, merci pour un bon sourire et bon bouquet. Souvenir a Madame Gordon de Marevna Vorobieff, 12 Avril 1969, Gaviota a Malaga', mounted on a cardboard backing, within a glazed frame with open back, 26.8 cm high x 20.5 cm wide.
Provenance: direct gift from the artist to the vendor's mother (Mrs. Gordon) who met the artist on holiday in Malaga, where they stayed at the same hotel, Gaviota, and became friends during their stay.
