Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’ is one of the most famous works of Greek and Roman mythology and history of the 1st-century. It is known to have inspired the works of Dante, Boccaccio, Chaucer, and even Shakespeare as well as works of visual art and music. This epic poem recounts the history of the world from creation to the death of Julius Caesar.
This rare 1579 edition of Ovid’s famous masterpiece was edited with notes and commentary by a variety of contributors including Giovanni Andrea dell’ Anguillara, annotations by Giuseppe Orologi, and textual arguments by Francesco Turchi.
