Antique Star Mercerized Metal Thread Display Case

Item Details

Description

This Star Mercerized Sewing Thread display case is made by the American Thread Company great find. Large, heavy display case is made of metal with a faux mahogany wood finish. Four glass front drawers with metal handles. Each drawer opens up to 10 divided section rows for displaying various colors of small wooden spools of Star brand thread. There is a divider after the first spool at the front of the door so it can't roll to the back of the drawer and nicely displays any remaining spool stock behind the divider. These vintage display cases were used in the early 1900's in dry goods or general stores. Each drawer is divided for 10 rows of spooled thread.. The sides and back of the cabinet all have the same graphics with the red and white star logo trade mark and reads; Star Mercerized Sewing Cotton - Fast Colors - Will Boil - American Thread Company. The cabinet is in EXCELLENT! Condition (the best I have seen or ever sold) . There is normal age related wear, but no dents or damage due to anything other than age. Thread shown in photo are included with case. Overall, it is a fabulous antique piece and would make a wonderful display. The case measures about 15 ¾” wide by 14” deep by 8 3/4” high. Each spool slot measures about 1 ¼” wide and the drawers measure just over 1 ¼” deep. The advertising is crisp with minimal wear. The overall finish has good gloss but there is some light scratch wear.. The glass drawer fronts are original and have no nicks. The hardware appears to be original but three seem to have some type of coating and one does not (most likely the most used drawer). Will make a great addition to your sewing room.
