Description
Chinese Early Ming Dynasty Period, Hongwu a molded dragon reliefs Longquan kiln celadon glazed porcelain charger. The Porcelain potted in shallow vessel form, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, a thick flared lip, raised with short round shallow draft and slight concave. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in Longquan design color. Longquan decorated with greenish glaze made at kilns centered in the Longquan area of southern Zhejiang province. Celadon wares was made here from the Northern Song to the early Qing dynasty according to recent excavation reports, as opposed to an earlier belief that the production ended in Ming. Over three hundred kilns great and small were firing in the Longquan kiln complex during the Yuan dynasty the clay employed, having a comparatively high iron and titanium content and very varied, produced a grayish body. The Longquan Kilns were rediscovered around the 1930s, when the railway was extended from Shanghai to Hangzhau, and Longquan pieces started to surface. Meticulous finish sgraffito on the center with medallion of five claws imperial dragon soaring amidst thrashing Lishui waves water, flaming clouds, and the mouth rim carved with flowers blooms, carving beneath the attractive deep orange glazed covers the delicate clay, showing silky smooth sheen and conforming the dragon and flowers blooms design. The immaculate porcelain body covered with a characteristic silky glaze. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
