A set of 13 American coin silver dinner forks by Michael Gibney, New York (1836-1861). In the Fiddle Thread pattern. The back of the handle with the maker's mark of Michael Gibney and the date stamp of 1845. Also stamped with the retailer, Ball, Tompkins & Black. The back of the handle also engraved "Lewis". Measures 8-1/8" long. Overall weight 1161 grams (37.327 troy oz).
Note: Michael Gibney was the first person in the U.S. to be issued a design patent for a flatware pattern.
