MISSOURI RETAILED "OVAL THREAD" COIN SILVER PLACE FORKS, ASSEMBLED SET OF FIVE, probably produced by John Polhamus of New York City, NY (active c. 1833-1877), each fork with engraved "ALM" initials on handle. Each without maker's mark, three forks with "COIN" and retailer's mark for E. Mead & Co. of St. Louis, MO (active 1852-1861, 1869-1877), two forks with "GRIMES & VENIBLE" retailer's marks for the partnership of Charles O. Grimes and George P. Venible / Venable of Lexington, MO (active 1865-1896). Total weight: 9.280 ozt. Third quarter 19th century. 7 7/8" to 8" LOA.
Condition
Very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including nicks, very slight bending, and slight worn spots to raised pattern.
