Description
Echo,UT - Summit County - c 1867-1896 - C. W. Carter’s CDV gives a close up view of the impressive rock. Pony Express riders would have seen it along the route they took through Echo Canyon. Later, train travelers would get to see the rock up close from their Pullman windows when the transcontinental train tracks were finished and east/west travel began. The rock is close to the town of Echo, a pivotal place of significance to those following the Mormon trail to the California Gold Rush, as it was a place to stop and refresh before continuing on their westward journey. Later, Echo was also a railroad and highway junction. Today, little remains of the town, but the rock still stands as a silent sentinel witness to the past. :
