Description
On the front of the book is the signature of the author of Chiddushei HaRi"m, and it also turns out that this copy of the book was handed down as an inheritance to the Sfat Emet. As noted in the front of the book, by Rabbi Yitzchak Meir the son of the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Bezalel, the son-in-law of the Imrei Emet:
“Hashem, be gracious toward me, Yitzchak Meir Alter. This belonged to my master and grandfather, my teacher and rabbi and to the Gaon, my namesake, the Chiddushei HaRi"m.”
The holy Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Alter, the first Admo"r of Gur, author of Chiddushei HaRi"m (1799-1866) was one of the Torah giants of his generation and a prominent Chassidic leader of Polish Jewry. In 1859, when the Kotzker Rebbe died, the Chiddushei HaRi"m was appointed to replace him and moved to the town of Gur. He was renowned as one of the great Torah geniuses of his generation, and wrote many compositions and responsa, halacha and aggada. He died in 1866 and four years later his grandson, Rabbi Yehuda Aryeh Leib Alter, author of the Sefat Emet, was crowned the second Admo"r of the Gur dynasty.
