Stipple engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi after a painting by William Artaud. 27.7x23.1 cm (10¾x9"); matted and mounted on posterboard 48.8x41.2 cm (19¼x16¼").
With F. Bartolozzi's name written at lower right of image and Andrew Kippis at center in lower margin. Kippis was a prolific writer whose most famous work was Cook's Voyages. This was first published in London in 1788 and contains accounts of the three voyages – 1768-1771, 1772-1775, and 1776-1779 – as well as an account of the character of James Cook, the effects of his voyages, and a commentary on his service.
Condition
Minor soiling in margins with a few hints of foxing; near fine.
