The first three volumes of the definitive text on fish in the Indo-Australian Archipelago, a series that would grow to 11 volumes spanning the years 1911-62. Volume I contains a detailed index of the Ichtyological Papers of Pieter Bleeker, a Dutch medical doctor, ichthyologist, and herpetologist who was famous for the Atlas Ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises, his monumental work on the fishes of East Asia published between 1862 and 1877. The present works by Weber and Lieven Ferdinand de Beaufort furthered his research.
