Born in Dirschau, Bachmann studied at the Konigsburg Academy before settling permanently in Munich. Bachmann's travels took him to Iceland, Normandy, Teferiff, Venice, Istanbul, the Portuguese coast and the North Sea and Scillian islands. Scenes from virtually all of his travels were captured in paintings by Bachmann.Selections of his work are held in the permanent museum collections in Liepzig and Munich."
