Description
Rare Spanish Miquelet Flintlock Fowler Dated 1808. Unserialized, approximately .69 caliber, 35 1/2-inch part round/part octagonal tapered barrel with molded bands and inlaid gold and silver proofs at breech and legend reading FABRICADO/EN EIBAR/ANO D 1808. Two pierced barrel bands. Miquelet lock with oval touch mark appears to read: Y/RI/GO/EN. Fluted and relief-carved Madrid walnut stock with raised floral designs and engraved steel furniture. Scrolling triggerguard with illegible touch mark. Steel triggerguard. One-piece steel ramrod, full length of barrel. Note: Similar guns and examples can be viewed in the book, Spanish Guns and Pistols by Neal. A great reference book on Miquelet firearms. Note: This gun last sold at a Greg Martin Auctions sale, November 2007 as lot 1257. Provenance: Property of a Northern California Gentleman. Condition: Good for its age. Metal showing dark age patina and scattered light pitting. Minor losses to silver and gold inlays. Wood showing wear and minor crack repairs at wrist with minor dents and bruises present. Ramrod a bit bent. Barrel bands lose. Action functions, needs a little adjusting to make hammer come down easier. Bore a bit dark, but no heavy wear signs.
