Description
Number 743 for 100 shares to WB Stoever in 1892. Signed by Walter F Smith and M Smith. Underground mining vignette top center. Fantastic condition marred only by two small dog ears on right. "The Wallapai mining district is in Mohave County, northwestern Arizona, near the center of the Cerbat Mountains. The district is approximately 10 miles long and 4 miles wide. In the early days (1863-1900) miners sought silver, and to a less extent gold, in the oxidized parts of the fissure veins. Later, lead with a low silver content was mined, and still later the zinc and lead production became the most valuable, owing very largely to the combined output of the Golconda and Tennessee mines. From 1904 to 1948 the district had a recorded recovery of 54,760 tons of zinc and 35,736 tons of lead."
