Julian IP-40. 76 mm. This Indian Peace medal, dated 1865, was likely struck about 1900 using the new reverse design. Boldly struck with choice eye appeal, the holder states cleaned yet we see no sign of it. This is an impressive large size medal features the new reverse Engraved by Anthony Pacquet and struck at the United States Mint. This reverse of this medal was originally to have been made for Abraham Lincoln's Second Term medal, but when Lincoln was assassinated the U.S. Mint decided to use the reverse anyway on President Andrew Johnson's new medal. The reverse features many American icons, including a pedestaled bust of George Washington, a steam engine, plow, herd of buffalo, etc. Sharp and extremely clean and smooth in appearance with pleasing underlying red luster.
